Welcome to Tharu Ahasa (තරු අහස). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) apply to your use of tharulk.com, an astronomy and space education website run from Sri Lanka and published in Sinhala, English and Tamil. By using this website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the website.
1. About the website
Tharu Ahasa publishes articles, monthly sky guides, a “tonight’s sky” section, a sky events calendar, a glossary, quizzes and videos about astronomy and space. The website is free to use. We keep it running with advertising (see section 8).
2. Educational information only
- Everything on this website is for general education and interest. We try hard to be accurate, but we cannot promise that every fact, figure or date is complete, correct or up to date. Science changes as new discoveries are made.
- Do not rely on this website for navigation, safety-critical, professional or scientific decisions. For those, use official sources such as NASA, ESA or your national meteorological and space agencies.
- If you find a mistake, please tell us (section 14) and we will check and correct it.
3. Sky times, positions and events
- Moon phases, rise and set times, planet visibility, meteor showers, eclipses and similar sky information are calculated by software for Sri Lanka (Colombo, unless stated otherwise). Times and positions may differ slightly in other places, and weather, clouds, light pollution and the local horizon can affect what you actually see.
- Dates for things like meteor shower peaks are predictions and can change.
- Safety warning: never look directly at the Sun with your eyes, binoculars, a telescope or a camera without a proper certified solar filter. Doing so can cause permanent eye damage or blindness, even during a partial solar eclipse. When observing at night, take care in dark or unfamiliar places.
4. How our content is made
- Some articles are based on information from public science sources such as NASA, JPL, ESA and ESO, and we credit the source where possible.
- We use software tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), to help draft, translate and check some articles, quizzes and glossary entries. Our team reviews content before it is published, but errors can still happen.
- The English and Tamil versions of some articles are translated from Sinhala (or the other way round). If two language versions differ, the original-language version is the one we intended.
5. Copyright and use of our content
- Unless stated otherwise, the text, design, logo and original graphics on this website are owned by Tharu Ahasa and protected by copyright, including under Sri Lanka’s Intellectual Property Act, No. 36 of 2003.
- You may read, print and share links to our pages for personal, non-commercial use.
- You may quote a short part of an article if you clearly credit “Tharu Ahasa (tharulk.com)” and link to the original article.
- You may not copy full articles, republish our content on another website, YouTube channel or social media page, or use it for commercial purposes without our written permission.
- Images and videos from other sources (for example NASA, ESA, Pexels or Wikimedia Commons) belong to their owners and are used under their own licences, as shown in the image credit. If you want to reuse them, check the original source’s terms.
- If you believe something on this website uses your copyrighted work without permission, contact us (section 14) with the details and we will review it and remove it if needed.
6. Comments
You are welcome to comment on articles. When you comment, you agree that:
- your comment is your own and you are responsible for it;
- you will not post anything illegal, abusive, hateful, threatening, sexually explicit, defamatory or misleading, or anything that harms children;
- you will not post spam, advertising, unrelated links or personal information about other people;
- you will not pretend to be someone else.
Comments may be checked before they appear. We may edit, refuse or delete any comment, and block users who break these rules, without giving a reason. Comments show the views of the person who wrote them, not the views of Tharu Ahasa.
By posting a comment, you give us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide permission to show it on this website and, if you leave the Facebook option ticked, to share your name and comment on the Tharu Ahasa Facebook Page (see our Privacy Policy). You can ask us to remove your comment at any time.
7. Quizzes
Quizzes are for fun and learning only. Scores are not saved, and there are no prizes unless we announce a competition with its own rules.
8. Advertising
We show ads from Google AdSense on the English and Tamil versions of the website. Ads are provided by third parties. We do not control or endorse the products or services in them, and we are not responsible for anything you buy or any website you visit through an ad. Please do not click ads on purpose to support us, because this breaks Google’s rules.
9. Links and embedded content
Our pages link to other websites and show embedded content such as YouTube videos. We are not responsible for the content, availability or privacy practices of other websites. Using them is at your own risk and under their own terms.
10. Acceptable use
When using this website, you must not:
- try to hack, overload, disrupt or gain unauthorised access to the website or its server;
- use bots, scrapers or automated tools to copy large amounts of content;
- upload or send viruses or other harmful code;
- use the website in any way that breaks the law.
11. Availability and changes
We may change, pause or remove any part of the website at any time, and we cannot promise that it will always be available or free from errors.
12. Limitation of liability
The website is provided “as is”. To the extent allowed by law, Tharu Ahasa is not responsible for any loss or damage that comes from using, or not being able to use, the website or the information on it. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited by law.
13. Governing law and changes to these Terms
These Terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, and any dispute will be handled by the courts of Sri Lanka. We may update these Terms from time to time; the “Last updated” date at the top shows when they were last changed. If you keep using the website after a change, you accept the updated Terms. Please also read our Privacy Policy.
